Come join the Second Challenge at the Digital Futures Drone Arena, a one-of-a-kind interactive event with aerial drone technology! The challenge takes place on May 16-17, 2023 at KTH’s Reactor Hall in Stockholm, Sweden.

What?

Are you curious about how technology and humans may move together? Do you want to learn how to pilot drones with movement? Are you keen on exploring what it would be like to pilot drones in ways that draw inspiration from fashion shows, dance performances, or other aesthetic ways of moving without writing a single line of code? Then this event is for you!

Who?

We welcome up to 10 pairs (teams of 2 people) to participate in the challenge. You don’t need your own drone or be able to program a drone to participate! We will provide the drone equipment and take care of everything necessary to make them fly. What you need to do is to be creative and move together with the drones to setup the best show you can deliver! There’ll be a jury judging the final performances and we have exciting prizes for the most successful teams!

Our Research

We will be studying human–drone interactions through observation during the second drone challenge. Observations will happen either in person or with the help of video recordings from the competition. We will also interview members of the participating teams. Our aim is to develop insights into how teams collaborate together to pilot the drone. Participation in the research is entirely voluntary. Choosing to not participate or to withdraw from participating (at any time, without giving a reason) does not affect the team’s opportunity to participate in the challenge or our future challenges in any way. Teams will be provided further details about participation in the research ahead of the competition, and those who decide to take part will be asked to sign a consent form at the beginning of event week.
